Thoughts of becoming a successful caramel creator may have never crossed her mind while Cassandra Chen was in business school, but we’re at least one group who’s happy she detoured from a finance career to one a little more… ooey-gooey and delicious.
Cassandra’s caramel-covered road to success began in an industry with little ties to the culinary world - specifically, finance and international relations. Working for large banking institutions and on the foreign exchange floor did, however, lead her to discover a whole new world in fine dining. “I realized that, even though my family’s expectation was that I would stay in my successful professional career, it just wasn’t for me,” says Chen on her website.
Cassandra found her calling in food and her husband, who also taught her about the world of wine. Soon after her youngest son started preschool, Cassandra decided to start a business around the caramel corn her friends and family couldn’t get enough of.
When she failed to find a caramel at the quality she wanted, she decided to craft her own. All CC Made caramel products are made with locally sourced ingredients and handmade in small batches. Cassandra also keeps her bold and creative packaging design in the family, courtesy of her cousin, Emily Hou.
After places like the Arlequin Café and Wine Bar, the Tyler Florence gourmet store and Dean and Deluca started carrying CC Made, the reputation of her products spread.
“Delicious quality, always handmade.” And delivers with each bag of caramel corn opened! Just try to put the bag away after you try a bite… just try.
